According to the Forbes 2022 400 List of Richest Americans, 69% of them are self-made millionaires or billionaires. Getting to the top isn’t easy though, and I’m here to tell you that it’s even harder to stay there. All successful entrepreneurs share certain characteristics and regular habits that help them achieve and maintain greatness in their chosen careers.

Having a daily routine that consists of the same things day in and day out is great, but only if the things that you’re doing are pushing you to be the best version of yourself that you can possibly be. Many people don’t consider if how they spend their time is more helpful—or harmful—when it comes to taking their business to the next level. The same can’t be said for successful entrepreneurs—they understand the need to be intentional and decisive with how they distribute their minutes because every second counts.

For over a decade, I’ve been helping people just like you achieve their business goals. I can tell you from experience that if you’re willing to put in the work, anything is possible. Keep reading as I break down the top five habits that will kick-start your journey to entrepreneurial success.

1: They Set Goals

Lou Holtz once said, “If you’re bored with life, if you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things, you don’t have enough goals.” He couldn’t be more right.

One of the best and most productive ways to spend your time when trying to monetize your business is to outline goals for yourself. Set easily attainable, short-term milestones and write them down. Revisit them daily or each week to hold yourself accountable. For long-term goals, revisit them every month. Knowing what you want and how you’re going to do it makes all the difference in actually getting there.

2: They Have Unwavering Persistence

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal—it’s the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill

Successful entrepreneurs aren’t immune to failure and rejection, they’ve just learned how to properly deal with it and use it to their advantage. The truth is that business ownership comes with its own set of unique challenges and you will fall from time to time—all that matters is that you get up, dust yourself off, and keep trying.

Think about a time in your life when you were nervous to take the first step. Whether it was your first client, a spouse, business acquaintance, or potential partner, you were probably nervous. What was the outcome? If it didn’t go as planned, how did you recover? The more you confront difficult conversations and situations, the smoother it gets.

3: They’re Always Learning

I think Albert Einstein said it best: “Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.”

A college degree can only take an aspiring entrepreneur so far. What sets the successful individuals apart is their constant desire to grow and learn something new after their formal education has concluded. There are so many ways to expand your knowledge and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

Read a book, take a free or paid wealth-building course, listen to a podcast, ask questions, do everything and anything you can to elevate yourself and your business prosperity. Start with following my real estate and entrepreneurship blog. I regularly post helpful articles and information to help new business owners outline and attain their goals.

4: They Try New Things

Curiosity is one of those things that all entrepreneurs can relate to. Their capacity to stay curious gives them the ability to continuously go after new business opportunities and explore new avenues for getting there.

So, my advice? Don’t be afraid to go on an adventure! People who live their lives within the confines of their comfort zones don’t grow. Make it a point to try new things every week, or daily if you’d like! The more fun and excitement present in your personal life, the better energy you have for your professional one.

5: They Surround Themselves with Likeminded People

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “you are who you surround yourself with.” It’s not just a common expression, it’s also a fact. Surrounding yourself with people who make you better is a must when it comes to finding entrepreneurial success.

Make connections with people who share your skills and are driven to be their best to fuel each other’s passion and energy. Find a business mentor or do some mentoring yourself, the things you learn from all the above will be invaluable.

Successful Entrepreneurs Start with Successful Leadership

Taking the leap to begin your own business comes with its fair share of anxieties and challenges, but once you’ve made the commitment, it can be the most rewarding feeling in the world. Successful entrepreneurship habits are born with the conscious decision to make a change. Once you’ve done that, you’re one step closer to fulfilling the entrepreneurial career of your dreams.
