“The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never scoring.” -Bill Copeland

As we all know, goal-setting is the first step to achieve success. However, it does not end right there. After you have identified your goals and mapped out a plan to achieve them, it’s now time to get going.

Along the course of your journey, you may feel demotivated because your target just seems too far. Or you may also feel like you got nothing else to strive for because you already reached the top of the ladder. Whether you see yourself experiencing the first or the second statement, there’s something more you can do. Yes! You can definitely spice up your journey and take your goals to a higher level to get that zest for life once again. Wouldn’t you admit that competitive people enjoy challenges?

If you’re one of us then here are 3 ways you can take your goals to the next level:

Focus with the end in mind

The path that you’re going to travel before you reach your goals can be very daunting. It’s a tedious road. No wonder why many people give up along the way. What’s unfortunate though is that they don’t realize how close they are to achieving what they really want in life…

Are you familiar with the eleventh hour? If not, it’s an idiomatic expression that is used to define the excruciating moment before you reach victory. It’s like that silent, lonely, and agonizing hour before dawn. Term curators define is the longest point in your life wherein many decide to abandon their dreams because they feel like they’re working for nothing and waiting in vain for none. What they don’t know is that they’re only a step away from achieving their goals…

Now, to avoid being a victim of the eleventh hour and ending up regretting your decision to give up, I encourage you to focus your mind on the end of the rope. Always imagine your own moment of victory – craft in your head how happy you will be once you reach your goals. This alone can fuel your drive to work on your goals.

Raise your standards

Okay, so you have achieved your goals. Do you think you’re done? Does your success already justify your existence? Would you stop now? No! Why? Because when you do, you are subjecting yourself to long-term self-pity – you’ll lose your drive, your passion for life… What you must do then when you find yourself already accomplished or bored with the entire journey of achieving your goals is to raise the bar – aim for something higher!

There are numerous ways to never lose the life in you – re-define greatness, challenge your limitations, try something new, re-evaluate your beliefs and principles, and might as well get into a new hobby. The latter will help you feel rejuvenated all the time.

Try the path of the least resistant

Feeling tired of everything you’re doing? Never give up buddy! You need not re-invent the wheel. You can simply take a breather and reward yourself with some alone time to re-think everything. Go take a break. Indulge in an 8-hour sleep. Studies show that completing a full-cycle of sleep does a lot of good to our brain.

Once you’re done resting, you need not pressure yourself back into the game. Be gentler with yourself – seek the aid of somebody you know who’s done it, write down loose ideas versus lost ideas, change your pace or better yet slow down a bit (there’s no need to rush ‘coz you’ll get there eventually), take small increments to make it easier for you to achieve your goals, stick to daily standards so you don’t feel overwhelmed.

I hope these 3 ways of taking your goals to the next level can help you with your current situation in life. Wherever you are in your journey, always believe in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. It’s just a matter of time. Rewards await the brave and the patient, so I’m sure you’ll get yours one day!
