When it comes to success there is one key ingredient that almost every entrepreneur, public figure, or anyone that has pursued a worthwhile goal contributes to keeping them motivated and inspired through the tough challenges.

What is this special ingredient?

The ability to cultivate and harness gratitude.

If you want to achieve more, do more, and be more you must first learn to appreciate where you are this very second. It doesn’t matter where you currently are, if you can’t take a second to step back and marvel at the good that is currently in your life, it is increasingly unlikely that you will ever reach your full potential and achieve true “happiness”.

When it comes to entrepreneurship and wealth-building, you must learn to love the process.

By embracing gratitude, you are shifting your mindset from lack to abundance. Instead of feeling like you are down on luck, or behind in life, you will feel that you are blessed to be alive and fortunate to have the many opportunities around you.

Gratitude can be an effective weapon for curbing entrepreneurial depression and anxiety.
It is a fact that we can not be both happy and sad at the same time. When it comes to emotions, we are singular creatures. Don’t believe me, try and be sad and excited at the same time.

You can’t

How does gratitude change our lives and how can you use it to change yours?

Let’s dive in.

1. Gratitude makes us happy.

It is a solid fact that gratitude cancels out negative emotions. How many people do you know that are thankful for everything in their life but also negative? Not many, if any at all right. The same applies to the opposite. Gratitude helps us to put things into perspective.

You don’t have a million dollars in the bank yet. So what! You have family, friends, you’re alive to even read this right now, and most of all, you have the pleasure of being a driven human being with limitless potential.

That million you want in the bank is yours to go get. But you have to appreciate what you currently have else you’ll be too stressed to achieve whatever it is that you want!

2. Gratitude makes us healthier.

As an entrepreneur, our health, physical and mental often takes a backseat to our goals. We are driven to accomplish so much that we will readily sacrifice whatever it takes to get there.

Being grateful has been scientifically proven to influence our psychological and even our physiological health. When we are grateful we are less likely to compare ourselves and our accomplishments to those of our peers and we are less likely to feel defeated whenever we take the occasional and inevitable “Loss” that life may throw at us.

This mentally greatly affects the choices that then affect our bodies and our minds.

Given the same conditions and stresses as the average person, those that practice gratitude bounces back quicker, allowing them to do more and achieve more vs the person that may not consciously choose to be grateful.

“When we focus on our gratitude, the tide of disappointment goes out and the tide of love rushes in.”
Kristin Armstrong

3. Gratitude helps us appreciate the present.

“Remember then: there is only one time that is important – Now! It is the most important time because it is the only time when we have any power.” ~ Leo Tolstoy

The only thing that matters is now. Not yesterday, not next week, just now. Abiding by this principle will not only help you as an entrepreneur, but it will also help you to live a more fulfilled peaceful life.

By being grateful and living in the present, we able to see and capitalize on the many opportunities that pass right by us when we are not paying attention “being in the present”. Worrying about what you don’t have either puts your mindstate in the past or the future. Never the present. It is the present where your strength lies.

Now don’t confuse this last point as me saying you should not look to the future. You should.
You should look at your past briefly for mistakes. Look to your future to determine where you want to go. Then put both of these insights to work for you in the present. Don’t worry, don’t hope, just take action, and you will achieve your goals.

I want you to do one thing for me every day and I guarantee it will dramatically alter/change your mindset.

When you wake up, look around and find just one thing that you are grateful for, it can be your shoes, your family, your toothbrush, heck even your favorite coffee filling the room with your favorite scent. You must do this every day as soon as you wake up. You can even write it down and keep a journal.
The more you do this exercise, the more you will begin to see each and every day as a blessing and something to be thankful for.

Drop a comment and let me know what you are thankful for today.

I’m thankful for each and every one of you!
